From Red Delicious to Granny Smith to Gala's, apples offer a wide variety of tastes and colors. Nearly everyone has a favorite variety of apples.

In the United States apples are harvested in the fall and then stored in controlled atmosphere rooms so that they can be enjoyed all year. Years ago finding a good apple in the summer was difficult; today we enjoy delicious, hard, juicy apples 52 weeks a year.

Did you know on average Americans eat 19.6 pounds of fresh apples per year? That sounds like a lot until you hear the consumption number for Europe. Across the Atlantic, average apple consumption is a whopping 46 pounds per capita, that's 2 1/2 times our consumption.

As huge a category as apples are in the world of produce, we believe that growing consumption in this country will keep this category on the rise for a very long time.
